1. How do I configure my email software to retrieve my CyberGate mail?

It depends on the mail program that you use. See Email Support for detailed information. Here are the generic mail settings: SMTP Server: mailhost.gate.net POP3 Server: pop.gate.net Please note: Eudora needs the information for your POP account. This is your username@pop.gate.net (enter your own username).

2. I get an "envelope" or " from line" error when I try to receive my mail. What's wrong?

Envelope or from line errors occur when a mail message is corrupted or truncated. These errors must be resolved by a CyberGate technician. Call Tech Support at 954-421-1111 (or 800-522-0342) to get this resolved immediately.

3. I get a "Pop lock busy" error when I try to receive my mail. What's wrong?

This message is generated when the server thinks more than one user is trying to access your mail account at one time. Sometimes, this is caused by faulty mail software or an attempt to reconnect before the server realizes that a connection was dropped. A Pop Lock prevents any access to the mailbox for a period of 15 minutes. Any attempt to reconnect during that period simply extends the clock on the Pop Lock. Since these errors are cleared by the system, wait at least 15 minutes and try again. If your mail software automatically checks your mail at intervals less than 15 minutes, close your mail program to avoid extending the Pop Lock unnecessarily.

4. I would like to add an additional mailbox to my PPP account. How can I do this?

CyberGate offers additional mailboxes at $5.00/mo. Please call CyberGate Sales at 800-NET-GATE.

5. If I cancel my CyberGate account, can I have a forward point to my new email address?

A .forward file would not work since canceled accounts are taken out of out mail server's list.

6. How do I configure my news reader to get Usenet News from CyberGate?

It depends on the news program that you are using. Within the program's configuration, set the NNTP server to: news.gate.net.

7. I tried to connect to CyberGate's mail server (or news server) and the connection was refused. Why?

If you are trying to connect to pop.gate.net (or news.gate.net) from your CyberGate account and were refused - make sure that they are properly named. If they are correct, there may be a problem with the mail (or news) server or the load may be high. Try again later. Our system does not permit connection to theCyberGate news or smtp (mailhost.gate.net) server unless you are connected to the Internet via a CyberGate dialup connection.

12. Why do I have sometimes have problems bringing up a specific web site?

There are a several possible reasons for this to occur:

  • You may have misspelled the domain name. Check the spelling.
  • There may be an issue with one of the servers in your route to that domain.
  • The web site may not be active on the server which is hosting that domain.
  • The server which hosts the web site may be down.
  • Our domain name servers (DNS) may not have the current information for that domain. Our DNS servers are updated daily but errors may occur.
